Pangea Rally - Rider Code of Conduct
Effective date: 13 May 2026.

Summary
This Rider Code of Conduct sets out the riding, safety, route, environmental, and behaviour standards expected at Pangea Rally. The rally depends on rider accountability, mutual respect, and safe decision-making. This Code forms part of the Pangea Rally Terms & Conditions of Booking and Participation.

By participating in the Event, you agree to follow this Code of Conduct, the Terms & Conditions, the Refund & Cancellation Policy, the Indemnity & Liability Waiver, event briefings, marshal instructions, and venue rules.
The organisers reserve the right to remove any participant from the Event at their sole discretion where behaviour is deemed unsafe, disruptive, or in breach of these standards.

This Rider Code of Conduct should be read together with:

By booking, paying for, registering for, or participating in the Event, you agree to be bound by all of the above documents.

1) Safety
-
No helmet, no ride.
-
The South African National Traffic Act states that helmets must be worn and properly fastened at all times while riding a motorcycle.

The mandatory minimum safety gear that must be worn while riding, and will be enforced by the event organiser includes:
-
riding boots;
-
gloves; and
-
eye protection.

Body armour and suitable off-road riding gear are strongly recommended.

Riders must follow South African road laws at all times.
-
Traffic fines, penalties, impoundment, and enforcement issues are the rider’s responsibility.

No rider may ride under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any substance that may impair judgement, balance, reaction time, or riding ability.

Riders must not ride when medically unfit, dangerously fatigued, or otherwise unable to ride safely.
2) Route Discipline

Riders must follow the route provided by Pangea Rally, whether by GPX file, route card, briefing, marshal instruction, or official event communication.

Riders may not intentionally leave the route unless instructed to do so or unless immediate safety requires it.

If a rider leaves the route, they must notify a marshal or event representative as soon as reasonably possible.

If a search, recovery, or unnecessary support response is triggered because a rider failed to communicate, the associated costs may be charged to the rider.

Riders must respect route changes made for weather, safety, road closures, permits, land access, or operational reasons.

Riders must not enter closed, private, restricted, environmentally sensitive, or prohibited areas unless expressly included in the route or instructed by event staff.
3) Rider Accountability

Riders must check in at the designated finish point each day.

Riders must respect start times, checkpoint times, regroup points, and finish cut-off times.

Riders must attend mandatory briefings unless excused by the organisers.

Riders must comply with reasonable instructions from marshals, medics, mechanics, sweep teams, venue staff, and event organisers.

Marshals may instruct riders to increase pace, stop, take an escape route, accept support, or change route where required for safety or operational reasons.

Riders remain responsible for their own navigation, pace, fuel, hydration, equipment, and decision-making.
4) Sportsmanship and Rider Support

Riders are expected to support fellow participants where safe and reasonable to do so.

Riders should assist or alert marshals in the case of a crash, injury, medical concern, mechanical issue, lost rider, or rider in difficulty.

Riders must communicate clearly and respectfully with marshals, staff, venues, local communities, and other riders.

Aggressive, abusive, threatening, discriminatory, harassing, or disrespectful behaviour will not be tolerated.

Good sportsmanship is expected at all times, including on the route, at venues, during briefings, in camp, and in digital communications connected to the Event.
5) Environmental Responsibility

No littering under any circumstances.

Smoking is permitted only in designated areas.

Riders must respect vegetation, wildlife, farms, communities, water sources, livestock, tracks, roads, and sensitive environments.

Riders must stay on existing tracks, roads, and approved routes unless directed otherwise.

Riders must avoid unnecessary noise, dust, roosting, wheel spin, and damage in sensitive areas.

Any intentional or negligent environmental damage may result in removal from the Event and liability for repair, clean-up, recovery, or related costs.
6) Venues, Accommodation and Shared Spaces

Riders must respect all venues, tents, accommodation areas, toilets, showers, dining areas, charging stations, equipment, staff, and fellow guests.

Noise, alcohol use, smoking, and behaviour must remain respectful of the venue, local community, and other participants.

Theft, vandalism, harassment, violence, deliberate damage, or serious misconduct may result in immediate removal from the Event and may be reported to the relevant authorities.

Riders are responsible for securing their own belongings. Pangea Rally is not responsible for lost, stolen, misplaced, or damaged personal items.
7) Breach of the Code
Where a rider breaches this Code of Conduct, Pangea Rally may take any action it considers reasonable in the circumstances, including:

issuing a warning;
-
removing the rider from a stage;
-
requiring the rider to take an escape route;
-
restricting further riding;
-
removing the rider from the Event;
-
charging the rider for costs caused by their conduct; and/or
-
reporting unlawful conduct to the relevant authorities.
